I was one of the design architects for this laboratory building (the first new building on the McGill campus for twenty years). Among the principle architectural problems was the need to mediate between the programmatic demands of a contemporary laboratory building and the constraints of a designated architectural heritage zone.One of the primary problems (shown in the model below) was how the new building integrate with the existing Foster lab building.
