The prinicipal challenge of the design was reconciling inherent contradictions within the urbanistic directives of the City of Montréal, contradictions that arise from an official intention to develop certain major streets using a generic typological model that conflicts with the specificity of potential building sites. Original statement: Faced with the task of developing a plan for the re-use of industrial sites, urban planners need not resort to behavioral, social or economic determinacy; instead, form itself can suggest program and architectural representation can be a planning tool.
